Description
Smoother, Brighter-Looking Body Skin with 8% Glycolic Acid
Dullness, rough texture and uneven-looking tone are not limited to the face. The skin on the arms, legs, elbows, knees and other areas of the body can also accumulate dry surface cells, leaving it feeling coarse and looking less radiant.
Radiant Image Lab 8% Glycolic Acid Brightening Body Lotion combines targeted chemical exfoliation with moisturising and skin-conditioning ingredients to improve the appearance and feel of rough, dull and uneven body skin.
Unlike a physical body scrub, which relies on abrasive particles, glycolic acid helps loosen the connections between dead cells on the surface of the skin. This allows them to shed more evenly, revealing skin that feels smoother and looks fresher over time. Glycolic acid may also improve the appearance of mild discolouration and uneven tone when used consistently and responsibly.
What Is Glycolic Acid?
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid, commonly abbreviated as AHA. Because glycolic acid has a relatively small molecular structure, it can exfoliate the skin effectively.
At an active concentration of 8%, this lotion provides meaningful exfoliation while remaining suitable for controlled home use when the formulation has the correct final pH and is used according to the directions.
Regular use may help improve the appearance of:
- Rough or bumpy skin texture.
- Dull, dry-looking body skin.
- Uneven-looking skin tone.
- Dark-looking elbows and knees.
- Surface discolouration left after minor blemishes or irritation.
- Areas prone to dead-skin buildup.
This is a cosmetic body-care product and is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure eczema, melasma, infections or other medical skin conditions.
More Than an Exfoliating Lotion
Glycolic acid is supported by a combination of humectants, emollients and skin-conditioning ingredients so that the product does more than simply exfoliate.
8% Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid helps remove accumulated surface cells, refine rough texture and promote a smoother, brighter-looking appearance.
Sodium Lactate
Sodium lactate is a humectant that helps attract and retain moisture. It supports skin hydration and helps counteract the dry feeling sometimes associated with exfoliation.
Panthenol
Also known as provitamin B5, panthenol helps condition the skin and supports a softer, more comfortable skin feel.
Allantoin
Allantoin is included to help soothe and condition skin, making the formula more suitable for regular body-care use.
Glycerin and Propanediol
These humectants help draw moisture into the outer layers of the skin and support a hydrated, flexible skin feel.
Nourishing Emollients
Caprylic/capric triglyceride and sunflower seed oil help soften dry, rough areas without creating an excessively heavy body-butter texture.
Dimethicone
Dimethicone forms a lightweight protective layer over the skin, helping to reduce moisture loss while improving slip, softness and the lotion’s after-feel.
How to Use the 8% Glycolic Acid Body Lotion
This product is intended primarily as an evening body treatment.
Step 1: Patch test first
Apply a small amount to one discreet area of the body. Monitor the area for at least 24 hours before applying the product more widely.
Step 2: Apply to clean, dry skin
After bathing, allow the skin to dry completely. Applying glycolic acid to damp skin may increase penetration and make the product feel more intense.
Step 3: Use a thin, even layer
Massage a small amount over areas of concern until absorbed. Concentrate on rough areas such as the arms, legs, elbows and knees.
Do not apply an excessively thick layer. Using more product will not necessarily produce faster results and may increase irritation.
Step 4: Introduce it gradually
For the first two weeks, use the lotion two evenings per week.
When the skin is tolerating the product comfortably, increase usage to three or four evenings per week. There is usually no need to use an 8% glycolic acid body lotion every night.
Starting slowly helps reduce the risk of excessive dryness, redness and sensitivity.
Step 5: Protect exposed skin during the day
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to treated areas that will be exposed to sunlight. Clothing should also be used to protect treated areas where practical.
AHAs can temporarily increase the skin’s sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. The FDA recommends sunscreen, protective clothing and reduced sun exposure while using an AHA product and for approximately one week after discontinuing it.
Recommended Usage Schedule
| Period | Frequency |
|---|---|
| First two weeks | 2 evenings per week |
| After tolerance develops | 3–4 evenings per week |
| Sensitive or dry skin | Remain at 1–2 evenings per week |
| During irritation | Stop until the skin has recovered |
Visible improvement should be assessed over several weeks of consistent use rather than after one or two applications.
The Do’s
Do patch test
A patch test is particularly important for customers who have never used glycolic acid or other AHAs.
Do apply it at night
Evening use reduces unnecessary sun exposure immediately after application and makes it easier to incorporate the product into a controlled exfoliation routine.
Do use sunscreen
Apply sunscreen to exposed areas every morning, including the arms, shoulders, chest, legs and feet when these areas are uncovered.
Do keep the rest of the routine gentle
Use a mild body cleanser and avoid unnecessarily harsh soaps or abrasive washcloths on treatment days.
Do monitor the skin
A very mild, temporary tingling sensation may occur, particularly during the first applications. Persistent burning, strong itching, swelling or prolonged redness is not normal.
Do moisturise on alternate days
A plain, non-exfoliating moisturiser may be used on nights when the glycolic acid lotion is not being applied.
Do reduce frequency when necessary
More frequent application is not always better. Consistent use at a comfortable frequency is preferable to over-exfoliating and having to stop completely.
The Don’ts
Don’t use it on broken or inflamed skin
Avoid applying the product over cuts, abrasions, sunburn, active rashes, infections or areas where the skin barrier is visibly damaged.
People with eczema, rosacea, very sensitive skin or an active skin infection should be cautious and obtain professional advice before using glycolic acid.
Don’t apply immediately after shaving or waxing
Freshly shaved, waxed or epilated skin may be more vulnerable to stinging and irritation. Wait until the skin is calm and free from redness before applying the lotion.
Don’t combine it with other strong exfoliants on the same area
On glycolic-acid nights, avoid applying:
- Other AHA or BHA products.
- Salicylic acid treatments.
- Retinoid or retinol body products.
- Strong exfoliating scrubs.
- Peeling solutions.
- Benzoyl peroxide treatments.
Combining several strong actives may increase dryness, burning and barrier disruption.
Don’t apply it to intimate or mucosal areas
Keep the lotion away from the eyes, lips, genital area and other highly sensitive tissue. It is formulated as an external body lotion.
Don’t use it as a deodorant directly after shaving
The underarms can be particularly sensitive. Patch test carefully and never apply to freshly shaved or irritated underarm skin.
Don’t continue through significant irritation
If intense burning, swelling, blistering or persistent redness occurs, rinse the area thoroughly and discontinue use.
Don’t expect immediate pigmentation removal
Glycolic acid can improve surface dullness and the appearance of uneven tone, but it cannot guarantee the removal of deep or medically diagnosed pigmentation.
Who Should Use This Lotion?
The 8% Glycolic Acid Brightening Body Lotion may be appropriate for adults experiencing:
- Rough, coarse body skin.
- Dull or ashy-looking skin.
- Uneven surface texture.
- Dark-looking elbows or knees.
- Mild post-blemish marks.
- Dead-skin buildup.
- Skin that feels dry but also requires controlled exfoliation.
It may not be the best first choice for severely dry, cracked, reactive or actively inflamed skin. Those conditions generally require barrier repair before introducing a leave-on acid.
Pregnant or breastfeeding customers, or anyone receiving treatment for a skin condition, should consult their healthcare professional before use.
What Results Can Customers Expect?
After the first few applications, the skin may begin to feel softer and less coarse. Improvements in dullness, uneven-looking tone and visible surface marks usually require more consistent use.
Results depend on:
- Application frequency.
- The severity and depth of the concern.
- Consistent sunscreen use.
- Whether irritation is avoided.
- The customer’s individual skin type.
- The cause of the discolouration.
The objective is gradual refinement—not aggressive peeling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use it every day?
Daily use is not necessary for most customers. Begin with twice-weekly use and increase to a maximum of three or four times weekly if the skin remains comfortable.
Can I use it on my face?
No. This formula and its usage directions are intended for the body. Facial skin may require a differently formulated product with separate safety and tolerance testing.
Can I use it on dark elbows and knees?
Yes, provided the skin is intact and not irritated. Apply consistently and protect the areas from excessive sun exposure.
Can I use it for ingrown hairs?
Glycolic acid may help reduce surface dead-skin buildup around follicles, but the product should not be applied to inflamed, infected or freshly shaved areas. It is not a medical treatment for folliculitis.
Can I apply another lotion over it?
Usually, the formula provides both exfoliation and moisturisation. Customers with very dry skin may apply a simple fragrance-free moisturiser after the glycolic lotion has absorbed, provided this does not cause discomfort.
Is tingling normal?
A brief, mild tingling sensation may occur. Strong burning, marked redness, swelling or discomfort that continues after application is a reason to wash the product off and discontinue use.
