Description
Smooth, Hydrate and Renew with 5% Lactic Acid
Dry, flaky and rough body skin often needs more than a basic moisturiser. Although traditional lotions can temporarily soften the skin, they may not adequately address the accumulation of dead surface cells that contributes to dullness, scaling and uneven texture.
The Radiant Image Lab 5% Lactic Acid Daily Hydrating Body Lotion combines gentle alpha-hydroxy acid exfoliation with a comprehensive moisturising system containing sodium lactate, glycerin, propanediol, panthenol, aloe vera, allantoin, plant oils, three nourishing butters and dimethicone.
The result is a moisturising body treatment designed to help dry, rough and dull-looking skin feel smoother, softer and more comfortable with continued use.
What Makes This Lotion Different?
This is not simply a body lotion with a small amount of acid added to it.
The formula uses Lactic Acid 80% at the concentration required to provide 5% active lactic acid in the finished product. It is supported by humectants, emollients, soothing ingredients and moisture-loss-reducing ingredients.
This balanced approach allows the lotion to address two major causes of rough, dry-looking skin:
- Accumulated dead surface cells.
- Insufficient water and lipids within the outer layers of the skin.
How 5% Lactic Acid Works
Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid, commonly known as an AHA. It helps loosen the bonds between accumulated dead cells on the skin’s surface so that they can shed more evenly.
With regular use, this can help improve the appearance and feel of:
- Dry, flaky skin
- Rough elbows and knees
- Dull-looking body skin
- Uneven surface texture
- Bumpy-feeling areas
- Skin that feels tight after bathing
Lactic acid also has water-binding properties, making it particularly suitable for dry-skin products when formulated with an effective moisturising base.
A Multi-Level Hydration System
Sodium Lactate
Sodium lactate is a highly effective humectant associated with the skin’s natural moisturising system. It helps attract and retain water within the outer layers of the skin.
In this formula, it works alongside lactic acid to support smoother, more hydrated skin rather than providing exfoliation alone.
Glycerin
Glycerin attracts water to the outer layers of the skin and helps reduce the tight, dehydrated feeling that can develop after showering or bathing.
It is one of the primary everyday humectants in the formula.
Propanediol
Propanediol contributes additional hydration while improving the spreadability and sensory feel of the lotion. It helps the formula apply more evenly without leaving an excessively sticky finish.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera provides hydrating and skin-conditioning support. It complements the active exfoliating ingredients by helping the lotion feel more comfortable on dry skin.
Panthenol
Panthenol, also known as provitamin B5, helps condition the skin and support moisture retention. It is particularly useful in formulas intended for skin that feels dry, tight or uncomfortable.
Allantoin
Allantoin helps soothe and soften the skin. It supports a more comfortable user experience and complements the exfoliating action of lactic acid.
The Nourishing Oil and Butter Complex
The lotion contains a carefully selected blend of emollient oils and plant butters rather than relying on one moisturising ingredient.
Shea Butter
Shea butter helps soften dry skin and replenish the emollient layer on the skin’s surface. It is particularly beneficial for areas that feel rough, tight or lipid-deficient.
Mango Butter
Mango butter contributes nourishment and softness while helping the lotion feel rich without becoming excessively heavy.
Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter provides long-lasting emollience and helps reduce the dry, papery feel associated with very rough skin.
Because cocoa butter is naturally firmer than many other butters, it also contributes to the body and structure of the lotion.
Sunflower Seed Oil
Sunflower seed oil is a lightweight plant oil that helps condition and soften the skin. It provides emollience without the extremely heavy finish associated with some richer oils.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Caprylic/capric triglyceride, sometimes referred to as MCT oil, is a light and stable emollient. It improves slip, supports even application and helps balance the richer feel of the plant butters.
Dimethicone for Smoother, Longer-Lasting Moisture
Dimethicone forms a lightweight protective layer over the skin that helps reduce moisture loss.
It also improves slip, reduces drag during application and gives the lotion a smoother, more refined after-feel. Dimethicone is particularly useful in a product intended for rough or flaky skin because it can immediately improve the tactile smoothness of the treated area.
Tocopherol
Tocopherol, or vitamin E, is included primarily as an antioxidant for the oil phase. It helps protect the plant oils and butters against premature oxidation while also providing skin-conditioning benefits.
Who Is This Lotion Suitable For?
The 5% Lactic Acid Daily Hydrating Body Lotion is designed for:
- Dry and dehydrated body skin
- Rough, flaky or scaly-feeling skin
- Dull-looking skin
- Uneven body texture
- Rough elbows and knees
- Bumpy-feeling upper arms or thighs
- Skin that requires both exfoliation and moisturisation
- People who find ordinary lightweight lotions insufficient
It is a body product and is not formulated as a facial moisturiser.
How to Use
Apply the lotion to clean, dry body skin, preferably after bathing or showering.
Massage a thin, even layer over the desired areas until absorbed. Concentrate on particularly dry or rough areas such as the arms, legs, elbows and knees.
When first introducing the product
Start with application three evenings per week.
Use it on non-consecutive days during the first week, especially when applying it to very dry, sensitive or previously unexfoliated skin.
After the adjustment period
When the skin tolerates the product comfortably, increase application to once daily.
Although the product is designed for daily use, more frequent application is not necessarily better. Reduce the frequency if the skin develops persistent sensitivity, redness or excessive dryness.
When Should Results Be Expected?
The skin may feel softer after the first few applications because of the humectants, oils, butters and dimethicone.
Improvement in visible flaking and rough texture generally requires consistent use. Results will vary according to the severity of dryness, frequency of application and the user’s overall skincare routine.
This product is intended to provide progressive improvement rather than aggressive peeling.
Important Do’s
Do patch-test before full use.
Apply a small amount to the inner arm and monitor the area for at least 24 hours.
Do introduce it gradually.
Starting three times per week helps the skin adjust to lactic acid.
Do apply it to dry skin.
Applying acids to wet skin may increase penetration and irritation.
Do use sunscreen on exposed body areas.
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen to treated arms, legs, shoulders, chest and other areas that will be exposed to sunlight.
Do monitor your skin’s response.
Reduce application frequency if the skin becomes unusually tight, red, itchy or sensitive.
Do keep the bottle properly closed.
Store it away from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
Do allow the lotion to absorb before dressing.
This supports even coverage and reduces product transfer onto clothing.
Important Don’ts
Do not apply to broken skin.
Avoid cuts, scratches, sunburn, open wounds and severely irritated areas.
Do not apply immediately after shaving.
Wait approximately 24 hours after shaving if the skin is sensitive.
Do not apply immediately after waxing or depilatory treatments.
Wait approximately 24–48 hours before applying an acid lotion.
Do not combine it with aggressive body scrubs on the same day.
Coarse scrubs, exfoliating gloves and strong acid lotions used together may damage the skin barrier.
Do not layer it with other strong exfoliating acids on the same area.
This includes high-strength glycolic acid, salicylic acid peels and professional peeling solutions.
Do not apply directly to intimate or mucosal tissue.
Do not use it as a facial moisturiser.
Do not apply it during an active eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis flare.
Do not continue using it through significant burning.
Persistent burning, swelling, intense itching or redness is a reason to wash the product off and discontinue use.
Is Tingling Normal?
A very mild and brief tingling sensation may occur when the product is first introduced, particularly on severely dry skin or areas with tiny, invisible cracks.
Strong stinging, persistent burning or prolonged redness is not normal.
The lotion should improve skin comfort over time, not make the skin progressively more irritated.
Can It Be Used on Keratosis Pilaris?
The exfoliating and moisturising combination may help improve the rough, bumpy feel commonly associated with keratin accumulation around hair follicles.
However, the product should not be presented as a medical cure for keratosis pilaris. Continued maintenance is normally required, and inflamed or scratched bumps should be allowed to heal before application.
Can It Be Used on Eczema-Prone Skin?
The formula contains several moisturising and skin-conditioning ingredients, but lactic acid may sting or irritate skin during an active eczema flare.
It should not be applied to inflamed, cracked, weeping or actively irritated eczema. Anyone with chronic or medically diagnosed eczema should obtain guidance from a qualified healthcare professional before introducing an exfoliating acid product.
